Martedì 27 Aprile 2010 dalle 17 alle 19 si svolgerà a Roma la Manifestazione "Salviamo le palme" a difesa delle palme italiane colpite epidemic of red weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus alias. We invite all people who are sensitive to the care and protection of the trees (and also those who have trees in their gardens or condominiums) and who think that saved from imminent death thousands of palm trees, our common good is essential and our duty to participate the event, the first defense of the palm trees that take place in Italy, organized by Palmiers for Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in centrally located, opposite the Victorian on Capitol Hill, the gardens of Piazza San Marco. Your presence will be an opportunity to question a modern evil of our society endorsed by the media and common sense: anthropocentrism, which considers issues subject to emergencies and economic measures only those that relate to humans while (and this year's International Biodiversity, 2010, sic!) does not consider the 20,000 trees already cut and death disappeared from our landscape, but only as an emergency a matter for some ministerial office.

Save palms
Appeals to the Government to request the status of national emergency for the outbreak of the beetle Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, which is devastating the Italian countryside .
The landscapes of our cities are losing the palms. Elegant and solid seemed indifferent to the deterioration of their urban habitat (more traffic, more fine particles, heavy metals, hot summers), but now the trees are dying, eaten by beetle Rhynchophorus ferrugineus better known as red punch. What now appears as an epidemic that is affecting the palms, also interested in Spain, southern France and Greece, but in Italy that has become characteristic of ecological disaster. Why? The public authorities, have so far turned a little to stem the evil and mortality of trees. A group of active study by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in May 2008 has not yet produced useful results in the containment epidemic. The decree of November 2009 on the "obligatory control punch red enacted five years after the beetle killer took office in Italy, and his recent update, has produced little or no detailed information on the face to citizens the risk run by the palm trees and how to limit the damage. Moreover, the decree states that "compulsory measures arising from the decree at the expense of the owners." Which means that local authorities must ensure that the public gardens of palms and tree-lined road that private citizens do not have access to any financial support to save the palme.Chiediamo then the relevant bodies to be decreed as regards the outbreak of the Red Palm Weevil, which so far only in the region of Sicily has killed 11,700 trees and 30,000 units infected with damage estimated at around one billion euros, and before the new action and devastating summer beetle pest, the state of national emergency. A request that, if accepted by the Prime Minister would: - the allocation of state funds that can be accessed local authorities and private owners to save the palms from certain death - to find an immediate and simultaneous action level protocol national coordinating the forces currently available (experts, agronomists, researchers), it possible to intervene preventively on the palms still sane e per abbattere quelle ormai irrecuperabili;- istituire centri di raccolta e dismaltimento efficaci;
